Counsellors are like emotional GPs - we work with the everyday problems of living. ‘Everyday’ does not mean ‘easy’ - emotions can be hard and painful to live with. It is a counsellor’s job to help our clients diminish suffering and build healthy relationships.

Counselling is a form of talk therapy, where a counsellor and client (or clients) work together on a troubling issue that is affecting their life. Counselling is often short-term (4 - 6 sessions) and practical. However it can also benefit a person by helping them examine their thoughts and emotions more generally, in which case the therapy might last for several months.

Couples sometimes find that their connection to one another is feeling frayed, fragile or broken. This could be because something big has happened or perhaps it seems nothing happened and yet there’s a worrying decline in the love or ease they used to have.
By listening carefully to both people, a counsellor helps them identify what is actually going on between them. With this clarity the couple can then, with or without the counsellor’s help, either embark on improving their bond, or separating in the kindest way possible.
